Kuredu reaches out to the local community

Reaching out to the local community is very important to Kuredu Resort Maldives and a variety of local charitable causes and community projects are supported by events on the island. Guests and team members love getting involved in these events, which, as well as being fun and interesting, are rewarding and extremely worthwhile.
Here is a snapshot of the local causes supported by Kuredu:
Thalassaemia Projects – the Maldives has the highest incidence of Thalassaemia in the world -18% of the population is carriers of the gene and there are more than 500 Maldivians suffering from the disease which requires lifelong treatment with monthly blood transfusions. Kuredu and Prodivers have been helping the country deal with this widespread medical condition through generous donations to the Maldivian Thalassaemia Society, enabling them to provide more desferal pumps that are required for the treatment. Kuredu organizes a ‘Walk for Life’ or alternative event each month and all guests are invited to attend. For a donation of $25 or more, the guests receive a special Kuredu Walk for Life T-Shirt. All donations from these events are in aid of Thalassemia projects in the Maldives.
Kudakudhinge Hiya Children’s Home in Vilingili that cares for local children. Kuredu has supported the Children’s Home with the help of generous donations from guests. Guests can support this project by taking part in the local handicrafts and cooking classes as well as making donations at reception on settlement of their final bill. What’s more, the Gladiator Games show is also a party for this good cause.
Tourism Career Information for local children. Kuredu regularly invites school children from local islands to the resort on a full day trip to give them an overview of the many career opportunities available to them when they finish their education.
Turtle Sanctuary at Naifaru – everyone loves to swim, snorkel or dive with sea turtles when visiting Kuredu and by taking part in the Crab Race events held in Babuna Bar guests can contribute to the turtles’ well-being in the atoll.
Children’s Football Camp – organized in December 2016 for guest children and local children from Naifaru and Hinnavaru islands. The youngsters were invited to train and play football with a professional player and coaches from the Premier League. Great fun was had by all and the children went home with certificates and a personal photo, signed by Bobby Zamora.
