Cultural Exchange? Yes, Please!
We love the whole world, it’s such a brilliant place.
And by living and working at Kuredu Resort & Spa, we are fortunate to be able to enjoy the best of both worlds: spending a substantial amount of time on an island that checks all the ‘perfect’ boxes AND being part of a culturally diverse group of people from all walks of life – those who we are living with at the resort and of course all those of you who claim the resort to be “yours truly” too.
This year’s staff party was such a big hit! Besides the cricket tournament, which took place on the football pitch this time, we did something else. For the very first time, we dressed up Kuredu’s Team Village in everything that we love about our home countries.
The team members borrowed props, costumes and other decoration to make their stand shine through; some teams even worked through the night to make the stalls picture perfect.
At 6:30 pm, the kitchen delivered all the exquisite food to the stalls and the staff volleyball court and the surrounding area was ready to transform into a proper cultural street market.
Food was aplenty, laughter was abundant and together with the music and the dancing, we could swimmingly teleport ourselves to the places represented by our expat teams. India, Sri Lanka, South East Asia, The Philippines, Bangladesh, Europe… Our minds wandered to the far-flung countries, though we couldn’t complain about daydreaming from the Maldives either!
The 4-member expert jury, taking into consideration the dressing of the table, participants’ activities, size of the team, costumes, serving and interaction, announced the team from South East Asia – our lovely Duniye Spa ladies – were the winners.
It’s so nice to be part of such a culturally diverse team. After all, strength lies in differences, not in similarities. But at the very least, we surely have one thing in common — We love Kuredu, it’s such a brilliant place…
