Walking to Raise Awareness of Hepatitis

The ‘Walk for life – Walk for Charity’ initiative at Kuredu Resort & Spa, Maldives seeks to raise awareness of global health and environment issues through monthly walks. Our walk on July 28th coincided with World Hepatitis Day and this was the focus of our walk in July.
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by a viral infection. Viral hepatitis is the 7th leading cause of death globally with 4,000 deaths per day. Most of the people living with the disease are not aware they have it – less than 1% receive treatment. It is estimated that there are 380,000,000 people infected across the world. Raising awareness of hepatitis is key to achieving the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030.
The charity initiative involves team members and guests walking around the island, which takes about an hour, for a good cause. At the end of the year a few Maldivian charities are selected by the resort management to receive donations from the ‘Walk for life – Walk for Charity’ events of the last year. The events are a great way of giving something back to the Maldives in return for the amazing memories you will be taking away.
