Kuredu Celebrities: Lakshman Jayathissa – Lucky
The first star of the Kuredu Celebrities show for 2017 is Senior Bar Manager, Lucky – and how lucky we are to have him here on Kuredu!
Lakshman Jayathissa, a.k.a. Lucky, joined the Kuredu family in 1992 as a bartender, since then he has climbed the ladder all the way to his current position of Senior Bar Manager. Lucky’s home country is Sri Lanka but counts Kuredu – the only Maldives’ resort he has worked at – as his second home. So, what is it about Kuredu that makes him feel so content here? He has good friends on the island, he likes the owners and management team, there are great staff facilities and he really appreciates being given the freedom to carry out his role to the best of his professional ability and being able to take decisions in guiding his team to meet the company goals.
Lucky absolutely loves the way his job role allows him to meet so many different people form all over the world – it certainly keeps things fresh and interesting – he can often be seen reminiscing with long-standing repeater guests about the ‘old days’ on Kuredu. In fact, Lucky is so happy here that even if he were the new General Manager, he wouldn’t change a thing – he loves it just the way it is!
Highlights of Lucky’s Kuredu career so far include an all-expenses-paid trip to Bangkok and Singapore in recognition of 15 years of service, winning Supervisor of the Month award, being on the winning team in a quiz competition and organizing (and winning!) cricket tournaments.
When he isn’t working and overseeing the smooth running of the bars on their busiest nights, Lucky enjoys a game or two of badminton, table tennis and is an avid cricket fan. He is a keen supporter of the charity events organized on Kuredu and participates as often as his schedule allows. We asked Lucky how he would spend his day if he were a guest on Kuredu for just 24 hours…
After almost a quarter of a century in the bars of Kuredu, Lucky knows a good cocktail when he sees one and, like any good bar professional he can’t leave you empty handed, so here is the recipe for his favorite cocktail, ‘Finding Summer’. Mix it up and join us in saying ‘Cheers!’ to Lucky!
‘Finding Summer’ – Lucky’s favourite cocktail
Ingredients: Hendriks Gin – 50ml, mango juice- 50ml, rose syrup – 10ml., fresh lime juice – 10ml, 2 ginger slices, 3 apple slices and 3 lemon slices
Glass: Burgundy
Method: Shake & pour
Garnish: basil sprig, ginger slice, green apple
Preparation: Muddle ginger together with lime juice in a Boston tin and add all the ingredients without Fruits and shake well with ice. Strain the drink on to fresh ice and add fruit slices.
