Kuredu Maldives snorkelling

Kuredu is pleased to announce its very first Snorkelling Day! The celebration of this wonderful sport and the magnificent coral reefs of Lhaviyani Atoll will take place on Sunday, 30th July 2017, at 15:00.

Snorkelling is one of Kuredu’s major draws: both the lagoon and the reef offer a wonderful array of marine life that will most likely be one of the highlights of your Maldives’ holiday.

The best snorkelling from the island is found in the lagoon running from the jetty down towards the O Resort side. Here the shallow water close to the shore offers a great place to get comfortable and build confidence for those of you just starting out. The large seagrass beds provide a great opportunity to spot one of the dozens of green sea turtles. Half way along an old drainage pipe has become an artificial reef, sheltering schools of colourful snappers and parrot fish.

Further out, where the colour changes from the light turquoise to the deeper, darker blue you will find Kuredu’s house reef. For easy access, we recommend that you take a walk down the jetty, and enter at the steps, where you will also find a map of the reef, detailing best practices. The reef itself consists of a number of large coral structures on the edge of the drop off, which provide home for thousands of schooling fish, from the tiny damsel fish to groups of larger groupers, bat fish and jacks. A purposely sunk fishing boat forms a fantastic wreck and focal point 1/3 of the way long; expect to get treated to passing eagle rays, napoleon wrasse and tuna.

To join Prodivers’ special Kuredu Snorkelling Day house reef tour, sign up at the dive center from this Wednesday. Price: $19. Spaces are limited!

If you already have other plans for Sunday, or if you’re not at Kuredu yet, fear not: guided house reef tours are offered three times a week, currently on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 16:15. These are preceded by a free introduction to snorkelling.
