Your Greener
Keep Your Environmental Footprint To A Minimum
Kuredu is a natural paradise where breathtaking beauty meets unwavering commitment to sustainability. Nestled in the heart of the Maldives, we strive to preserve the pristine environment that surrounds us by actively minimizing our environmental impact. From innovative energy solutions to dedicated conservation programs, we’re passionate about protecting the delicate ecosystem that makes Kuredu so special, ensuring that future generations can also experience the magic of this island paradise.
Marine Conservation
Kuredu is a haven for marine life enthusiasts, renowned for its vibrant house reef teeming with a resident turtle population and as a hotspot for graceful manta rays. We are deeply committed to protecting these incredible creatures, actively supporting the Olive Ridley Project and the Manta Trust. Located in the Lhaviyani Atoll, surrounded by marine protected areas, Kuredu offers access to world-class dive sites like Kuredu Express and the Fushivaru Channel. Furthermore, you can explore knowing that the Maldives is a designated shark sanctuary, contributing to a thriving and protected ecosystem. Our Marine Biology Center, led by a resident marine biologist and supported by Prodivers Maldives, studies the island’s diverse ecosystem. Guests can participate in conservation efforts, learning about and helping to preserve Kuredu’s rich marine life.
Reducing Single Use Plastics
Throughout the resort, We’ve drastically reduced single-use plastics, producing our own bottled water, saving hundreds of thousands of plastic bottles annually, and prioritizing suppliers who avoid plastic packaging. You’ll find paper straws at our bars and we have partnered with Healing Earth, offering guests their exclusive “Healing Ocean” range – biodegradable, eco-friendly skincare products formulated with the health of the environment in mind. Beyond this, our team diligently segregates waste for recycling in Malé, reducing our incinerator needs by 75%! We also encourage our guests to join our efforts through in-room recycling bags and creatively repurpose materials across the island.
Reducing Energy Consumption
We are actively minimizing our environmental impact through impressive energy conservation initiatives. Leveraging our sunny location, the resort has installed over 4,000 solar panels, reducing electricity usage by 36% and significantly lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Further energy savings are achieved through promoting outdoor linen drying, utilizing a heat recovery system that transforms waste heat into energy and adapting pool pump maintenance. Energy-efficient equipment is prioritized, and a resort-wide transition to LED lighting coupled with staff awareness programs and motion sensors contributes to further reducing energy consumption.
Farm To Fork
Our thriving greenhouses are a testament to our dedication to helping the environment through our practices. We cultivate a diverse array of fresh produce right here on the island, including herbs, vegetables like cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers, and fruits such as watermelon, bananas, and papaya. This “farm-to-fork” philosophy allows us to minimize food miles, reduce waste, and provide our guests with the freshest, most flavourful ingredients. We also utilise palm leaf plates and cutlery to minimise waste from large events. Beyond the greenhouses, Kuredu is actively involved in local conservation efforts and sustainable landscaping, ensuring we protect and preserve the beauty of the Maldivian ecosystem for many years to come.
