World Environment Day 2022 – Only One Earth

05 Jun 2022
Kuredu Maldives Resort

As the global community joins forces for World Environment Day on 5th June, this year will focus on the theme ‘Only One Earth’ and will highlight the need to make greener and more sustainable choice to enable us to live in harmony with nature.

Here at Kuredu Resort Maldives we are surrounded by the beauty of nature, one peek below the surface of the ocean reveals a thriving marine ecosystem of seagrass meadows and coral reefs teeming with life – from tiny shrimps to magnificent sharks and rays. Our environment is never taken for granted, we know how fortunate we are to be its guardians and are mindful of the need to preserve both the ocean and our island home. Our resident marine biologist is dedicated to monitoring the thriving (yet still endangered worldwide) population of sea turtles residing at our reefs and also in joining our guests on snorkel tours to teach them more about the marine environment and these fascinating creatures – it is through education and knowledge that change can be achieved. The diving and snorkelling practices at Kuredu are sympathetic to our delicate surroundings with briefings that impart knowledge of the fragility of the reefs and creatures living there. There are plenty of eco-friendly watersports on offer for guests of all ages to enjoy, including those that harness wind power and those that need your muscle power! On land we say no to plastic in the hope that no more will be added to the oceans of the world, we air dry as much laundry as possible, use solar power to contribute to our energy needs and source locally whenever we can – even growing some of our own produce on the island.

When looking at the problem our planet is facing it is easy to feel overwhelmed but every action counts, no matter how small, so join us as we celebrate World Environment Day – let’s all commit to making greener choices. Hang your laundry in the sun, say no to plastic, and take as many other small steps for the environment as you can whilst encouraging others to join you – we can’t turn back time but together we can make a difference!
