Put a stop to the drop: Celebrating World Water Day

In line with the commitment to decrease our environmental impact, Kuredu Resort & Spa, Maldives, would like to invite you to join us in recognizing UN’s World Water Day.
Last year we proudly retained the Travelife Gold Medal Award, which recognizes the efforts of sustainability in the hospitality and tourism industry. One particular success being our water bottling plant.
With the first full year of Kuredu’s innovative water bottling plant complete, 2014 saw the plant produce 660,143 liters of drinking water for our restaurants, bars, rooms, excursion vessels and our sister resort Komandoo. This equates to removing 440,095 1.5-liter plastic bottles from circulation, not to mention the reduced freight costs and handling involved with shipping such a cumbersome item. Very encouraging statistics!
Moreover, in 2014, our hydroponic greenhouse produced 15520 kg of fruit and vegetables, a tremendous feat, considering Kuredu is a sand island with very limited irrigation resources.
What can you do to help?
There are also ways you as a guest can assist. If you consider the geographical make-up of the Maldives, consisting of thousands of small islands, waste disposal is inherently difficult. So we ask that if you bring toiletries, lotion bottles, batteries or similar items, where possible, please take the empties home and dispose of there. Moreover, whether it be cutting the time of your daily shower, or stopping the water flow while brushing your teeth, any gesture will go some way to reducing the consumption of this precious resource and making a chance in the beautiful world we live in.
Thank you from all of us here at Kuredu for your continued support and may you all enjoy the rest of your paradise vacation, and lessen your environmental footprint not only this Sunday – let every day be World Water Day.
